CONIFERS - Poster A2

Conifers can be seen in many places in Denmark, as spruce and pine are the most common conifers. These trees naturally grow from south of the equator up to the Arctic Circle.

In Scandinavia, Russia and northern North America there are vast, uniform stands of trees with varying growing conditions, ranging from moist, rainforest-like environments to polar-like climates at the most northerly latitudes.

Trees that belong to the pine family play a decisive role in the world's supply of wood, timber and paper. This is because they can grow on poorer soils than broadleaf trees. They are also better adapted to the low light and harsh growing conditions of northern latitudes, and because of their simple structure they are easy to use for industrial purposes.
