Steine am Strand – German edition

All the stones that can be found today on the beaches of the Baltic Sea area were transported here by the glaciers of the Ice Ages. Each of these stones tells a story that stretches over millions to billions of years and reaches far back into primordial times. While some rock types were formed deep within the Earth's interior, others originated on ancient seabeds – some even contain fossils of long-extinct organisms.

In „Steine am Strand“, Jesper Milàn explains the Earth's formation history based on typical finds from Danish beaches. He describes, in an easy-to-understand way, an impressive variety of rock types:

Sedimentary rocks: sandstone, conglomerates, shale, clay ironstone, limestone, cementstone

Magmatic and metamorphic rocks: granite, basalt, diabase, porphyry, ignimbrite, gneiss, augen gneiss, amphibolite, hornfels

Structural features and minerals: stones with fractures and faults, breccias, flint, pyrite, quartz and quartz-bearing rocks

A clear illustration style and high-quality photographs make it easier to recognize and identify the rock types.
