THE MYSTERY OF THE CRETACEOUS SEA - Why did the dinosaurs die?
CLIMATE CHANGES IN A DISTANT PAST
»A natural catastrophe 66 million years ago wiped out almost all life on Earth. It's a grim story, but it also shows that life came back, flourished and developed into the world we know today.« That’s how Charlotte Blay and Lykke Bianca describe this new children's book about the Cretaceous Sea.
Charlotte and Lykke have walked many hikes along Stevns Klint together, and it was here they got the idea to let the inhabitants of the Cretaceous Sea tell a curious boy the story of what really happened to the dinosaurs. It was, of course, meant to be a fun and exciting story, they explain, but also informative. Therefore the book was created in collaboration with experts in geology and paleontology, and it is published in Danish, English and German.
»The story of the meteor that wiped out half of all life on Earth is universal,« explains Charlotte Blay. »The catastrophe hit the whole planet and caused the biggest climate changes in Earth's history. And it is here in little Denmark, at Stevns Klint, that we find the very best evidence of what happened. That's why the cliff was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2014. And when something is world heritage, we really must take extra good care of it,« she says.
The hope is to get even more children interested in going fossil hunting and reflecting on how important it is to take care of nature. Now and in the future.
Charlotte Blay has been writing books for over 40 years and has published more than 80 titles for children, young people and adults and received several literary awards. She has also written song lyrics for Povl Kjøller, cookbooks and scripts for Danmarks Radio. And she loves history and travelling.
