Mother of the Sea is the one who gives us all the animals and is one of the best-known legends from the Arctic. The animals flow out of her large, beautiful, black hair. The legend says that when hunting animals were scarce for periods, shamans had to set off on a spiritual journey down to the bottom of the sea and to the mother to comb out her tangled hair. Once this was done, the animals could be freed again and sent out to the sea, the land and the people.
